Purex dryer sheets review and giveaway

Purex Insiders recently sent me a box of Purex dryer sheets with Sweet Lavender scent to try out and share my opinion about. My first impression was a strong one...my laundry room instantly and still to this day smells of the absolutely wonderful lavender fragrance that is coming from the box of sheets. I was a little worried that the smell might be overpowering on the clothes, especially since my husband is kind of sensitive to scented products. After using them on a load of laundry, I found the fragrance to be much more subdued but still very pleasant. The clothes were left static-free and soft-feeling. I will definitely be using these affordable dryer sheets vs. the higher-priced alternatives that give comparable results. I am also excited to see if Purex comes out with other scents so that I can try those as well.

The generous folks at Purex also sent me some coupons to distribute as I see fit and, as usual, I chose to hold a blog giveaway! Three of my lucky readers will receive a coupon for FREE Purex dryer sheets. All you have to do to enter for the drawing is follow this blog and leave a comment with your email address letting me know you want to enter the contest. The drawing will be held on August 11th. Good luck!

Michael Buble "To Be Loved" album review

As a member of the One2One Network, I was given the opportunity to preview the new Michael Buble album, "To Be Loved." I had heard his name before, but I was really not familiar at all. I really didn't know what to expect, but I have a wide range of musical appreciation, so I was willing to give it a try in exchange for my honest opinions.

I began to realize while I listened that almost all of the songs on this album are recognizable covers originated by other artists. It almost gave me the feeling that I was watching a Las Vegas lounge act. It took me a little while to discover whether or not that was a good thing. Really, I would describe the music as "Easy Listening." It includes the type of songs you would hear on a TV show or movie soundtrack, or on a Muzak-type station in a mall or something, which aren't exactly the type of songs that I would normally seek out to listen to. However, it really was pleasant and even uplifting to my mood. I was showering and getting ready for my day as I played the album, and I have to admit that I found myself be-bopping around a little bit to some of the songs that I recognized.

All in all, I must say that I did enjoy listening to this album (which surprised me). If you are interested in checking it out, I recommend purchasing it from Amazon. If you buy the CD version, they include a free mp3 version of the album as well. Enjoy!

Soft Scrub Mold and Mildew stain remover gel review and giveaway

I recently received a container of Soft Scrub Mold and Mildew stain remover gel to test and blog about. This formula is a little different...it comes in a sprayer, which I love. I don't really have a mold or mildew problem, but I am always eager to try and share new products. I used it to clean the entire bathroom, and it worked wonderfully. I really like the spray gel because it clings to the surface. It worked great at cleaning my bathtub, which gets a little discolored because when you first turn the water on it comes out kind of rust colored for a few seconds and a buildup happens there.

I have 3 coupons to give away to my readers that are good for a free Soft Scrub product. Please make a comment on this blog post and three winners will randomly be drawn on May 21st.

Soft Scrub 4-in-one review and giveaway

I received a sample of Soft Scrub 4-in-1 Toilet Care from the Purex Insiders program to test and review. It is a product that hangs from the rim of the toilet and cleans and freshens every time you flush. Of course, it doesn't prevent regular toilet cleanings (if only!), it does help to keep things a little fresher in there. It is supposed to be effective for up to 4 weeks. In our house, we have low-flow flush toilets, so I think that the product would have been more effective if more water flushed past it each time, but it was still a helpful little contraption to have on there. The clip stayed put and did not get in the way at all.

I have 3 coupons to give away that are good for one free Soft Scrub product. Please leave a comment on this blog post with your email address, and 3 winners will be randomly chosen on May 21st.

Combat review and sweepstakes

Review:

A month or so ago, I was sent a package of Combat Ant Killing Bait Strips to try and review. I had to wait until I started seeing ants to use it, which was about a week ago. It seems that every year, ants become a problem in 3 areas of my home: one of the bedrooms, around the kitchen sink, and near the dog's food dish. As soon as I saw a few ants, I reached for that package to nip the ant problem in the bud.

Opening the vacuum-sealed pouch that contained the strips posed no problem at all. It had the little pre-cut "tear here" edge. After removing the first strip, I did encounter some difficulty. The product itself is a little plastic tray with a peel-off seal to expose the product and on the other side is a label that has a small adhesive sticker on top of it to affix it to a surface. My first problem was that when I saw the words, "remove to adhere," I tore the label instead of the way-too-small adhesive sticker and made it so that the sticky was no longer able to be used. Even on the ones that I exposed correctly, I found that the sticker was too small to be very effective at sticking to the desired surfaces. Anyway, I did end up setting out the trays, and sticking them in places that were not my first choices, so I got them out and waited.

I still saw ants for about 3 days after I set the strips out, but I have not seen any since then. I feel that this product could use some improvement, but it did end up doing the trick eventually.

Strong Moms

Take the StrongMoms Empowerment Pledge

Strong moms rock, and I am proud to know many. Strong moms make difficult choices for the benefit of their children, yet don't sacrifice their individuality at their expense. Strong moms do what is right for their child, even when it seems like everything else is going wrong. Strong moms support and encourage one other, and are there to lend a hand during tough times without judging or criticizing. Strong moms may sometimes feel like their strength is diminished and may need a friend to remind them about what they are capable of, and that's why I took the pledge to support moms.

Head over to strongmomsempower.com and take the pledge yourself.

"The Happiest Baby Guide to Great Sleep" review and Facebook giveaway

Click on the photo above to enter to win this book on Facebook!

As a member of the One2One Network, I was chosen to receive "The Happiest Baby Guide to Great Sleep" by Harvey Karp, M.D. to read and review. Sleep is the #1 concern of parents everywhere, and in this book Dr. Karp shares his knowledge and expertise.

This book has a very straightforward format. You can read the introductory chapter that focuses on the science of sleep (written in easy-to-understand language), and then go on to the section that corresponds with the age of the child in your life that you are wanting to get to sleep better. Each part is broken up into smaller sections, which makes it easy to read just a little at a time (as most parents know, picking up a book is almost like sending out a signal to your child that it is time for something important to happen so you will be sure to get interrupted while reading). There are also short summaries at the end of each chapter that hit the ideas that were just covered, which is something that I think could be extremely useful for someone who is trying to page back through after reading to refresh their mind a bit about the concepts.

I found that the majority of the advice was already familiar to me, as a parent of a five-year old. I have read many other parenting books, so many of the techniques that were suggested were ones that I am already well-acquainted with. However, there were several ideas that were new and seemed as though they would be effective. Included in the back of this book are some sample sleep-schedule charts and a wake/sleep diary that you can use to track your child's habits, which can in turn be analyzed to see where changes may need to be made.

Overall, I think that this book could be a great help to a parent who is struggling to get their child to conform to sleep patterns that are healthy for the whole family. It is easy to understand and does not take a very long time to read, so if you are someone who needs some quick and relatively easy tips, this would be an ideal choice.

I am holding a giveaway of the book that I received and read on the Keeping up with the Kershes Facebook page. All that you need to to to enter is "LIKE" and click "SHARE" on this photo on the Facebook page.

For information about where this book can be purchased, go to this website.

Dial Kids Body+Hair Wash review, giveaway, and sweepstakes

Review:

Dial recently sent me two new products to try in exchange for my review of them...Dial Kids Body+Hair Wash.

Dial Kids meant for ages 2-5, this body wash is for kids that have outgrown traditional newborn soaps, yet are not ready for adult strength body and hair wash. The Peachy Clean variety provided gentle cleansing, and my son told me that he likes the way it smells. I wasn't the biggest fan of the peach scent, but at the same time did not find it unpleasant.

Dial Kids meant for ages 6+, this one offers mild cleansing without drying out your child's delicate skin. It comes in Watery Melon and Berry Cool (we tried the Watery Melon scent). I liked the scent of it, and I am looking forward to eventually checking out the Berry Cool variety as well.

Although my son is 5, I went ahead and tried both varieties on him since he is on the cusp of the age groups that each is meant for. Both body washes that we tried were effective at cleaning my son's hair and skin. They provided an ample amount of suds with just a small amount of product. We used around a nickel size dollop on a cleansing pouf, which was enough for the entire bathing experience (which includes, as usual, giving the boy a bubbly white Elvis hairstyle, a beard and mustache of suds, and a few extra soapy foot tickles). The scents were light and fresh, and his hair and skin seemed to be adequately moisturized.

Both varieties are tear free, hypoallergenic, and PH balanced, with no artificial dyes or added parabens

Be sure to check out Dial on Facebook and Twitter.

Purex Natural Elements Tropical Splash review, giveaway, and sweepstakes

Review:

I am so glad to be a Purex Insider...I love trying new products and offering great giveaways to my blog's readers.  Recently, I was sent a bottle of  Purex Natural Elements Tropical Splash.  The first thing I did when I opened the package was take the cap off and see what it smelled like. I was pleased to inhale a unique blend of the scents of tropical flowers, pineapple and coconut.  I tried it in my laundry, along with the Tropical Splash scented Purex Crystals and was very happy with the result.

One of the great things about this brand is that it is formulated with natural fragrance extracts, and is gentle enough for sensitive skin. It's hypoallergenic and dye-free, yet it packs some serious cleaning power with Purex's "DirtLift Action." The formula is also biodegradable and promotes "green cleaning" practices. As with all Purex detergents, it is optimized for performance in traditional or high-efficiency washing machines and is very inexpensive compared to other detergent brands.

Soft Scrub Advanced Surface Review, Giveaway, and Sweepstakes

Review:

I received a full size bottle of the new Soft Scrub Advanced Surface Cleanser to review.  This cleanser did a great job on my stainless steel sink and on my black freestanding range cook top.  The thing I liked the most about it was that it took very little effort on my part...I basically just squirted it on and wiped it around, let it sit for a minute, then began wiping it away. It was one of the most no-fuss kitchen cleaning experiences I have had in a long time.

Soft Scrub Advanced Surface is a rinse-free gel that cleans and polishes granite and marble counter tops, glass cook tops, stainless steel, and more.  It is formulated to be tough on stains and gentle on even your most delicate surfaces.  Just apply and wipe away with a sponge, cloth, or paper towel.  You'll be amazed at how easily grease and grime disappear.

Purex detergent plus Fabric Softener with Crystals Fragrance review, giveaway, and sweepstakes

Review:

I just tried Purex detergent plus Fabric Softener with Crystals Fragrance for my laundry. It left my family’s clothes looking nice and clean with a fresh, pleasant scent. Purex detergents have the power of DirtLift Action™, which gets dirt out from deep in fabrics, which is especially useful if you have kids or if someone in your family works a dirty job.  The best thing (in my opinion) about Purex products, however, is the price compared to other brands.

Soft Scrub review, giveaway, and sweepstakes

Review:

I received a bottle of Soft Scrub Total All Purpose bath and kitchen cleanser to try and share my opinion about. I have already been a fan of Soft Scrub products for quite some time now, so of course I was thrilled to get the chance to try a new one. Soft Scrub Total All Purpose removes soap scum, hard water stains, limescale, grease, grime, and food stains and is safe to use on stainless steel, chrome, granite, Corian, porcelain, ceramic, plastic laminate, and glass-top stoves. It has a lemon scent, that leaves the aura of "just-cleaned" in the room in which you use it. I love it when my house smells clean instead of just looking clean. It makes a big difference, especially when you know that company is coming; it just gives you that extra oomph of reassurance that things are up to par.

Dial Coconut Water body wash review, giveaway, and sweepstakes

Review:

Recently, Dial® gave me the opportunity to try their new Coconut Water body wash in exchange for my review of the product. I love trying new products, and FREE is always the best, plus I had just run out of what I normally use, so I decided to give it a try. I was impressed by the thick, moisturizing lather...especially since the product itself started out clear. It has a pleasant light, fresh scent. It kind of gives an understated tropical feeling to the whole "cleansing experience."

Coconut water is rich in antioxidants and electrolytes, which help to provide replenishing hydration to skin. It is known as "super water" in the food and beverage industry because of its natural health and hydration benefits.

Honey Bunches of Oats Tropical Blend review, sweepstakes, and giveaway

I recently received a box of Honey Bunches of Oats Tropical Blend from Post to try and share my opinion about. I have to admit that I was slightly skeptical about mango and coconut in a cereal, as those are not among my favorite flavors. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how the light, sweet flavors combined with the crunchy granola clusters and crispy flakes. The flavor is very unique and enjoyable. I was also very happy that it was not necessary for me to add my own sugar, as I do so often to healthier cereals. Honey Bunches of Oats Tropical Blend only has 6g of sugar, but there is a natural sweetness to the ingredients. It contains 10g of whole grain, only 120 calories per serving, and has 9 essential vitamins and minerals. It is also heart-healthy, with no cholesterol or trans fat, and only 0.5g of saturated fat per serving.

I have coupons that are good for a free box of any variety of Honey Bunches of Oats to give away to 2 of my lucky readers. To enter, follow these easy steps:

Dry Idea review, giveaway, and sweepstakes

The very same day that I wrote "deodorant" on my shopping list, I received a full-size sample of Dry Idea Advanced Dry antiperspirant/deodorant roll-on from the awesome folks at Purex Insiders. Of course, I am always stoked to get a chance to try new products and this one was no exception. I am not a huge fan of roll-on types, as I have a tendency to over-apply and end up patting away the excess with a tissue or towel, so I was not 100% thrilled that this was the variety that I received, but I was not complaining either. The product also comes in gel and aerosol forms, luckily. I am very pleased with the clean, fresh scent and the long-lasting odor and wetness protection (once it dries initially, haha).  It is formulated with "Pulse Activated Wetness Protection," which means that you will "never let them see you sweat." It claims to give 72 hours of protection, but I don't think I will hold off to test that out for the full amount of time. I did skip one day (hey, don't judge...it was Sunday and I wasn't leaving the house or seeing anyone but my family) and the fresh scent remained. All in all, I will continue using this product, and I give it my seal of approval. I have 4 coupons for free Dry Idea roll-on, aerosol, or gel products to give away to my lucky readers. To enter, follow these easy steps:

Purex Crystals for Baby review, giveaway, and sweepstakes

Although my "baby" just turned 5, I still enjoy having the chance to test products of all types, so I was thrilled to receive Purex Crystals for Baby from the Purex Insiders program. The product is made specifically for babies, however I think that the fresh scent is very versatile and appealing. It was formulated for babies' gentle skin, but it can also be ideal for others with sensitive skin as well.

Like other varieties of Purex Crystals, it goes in at the beginning of the wash cycle and can be used in all types of machines. It is hypoallergenic and dye-free, and it is safe for use on all clothing.

I tried it, along with Purex Baby detergent (which I reviewed in a previous post) and I was very pleased with the freshness of the laundry at the end of the process. In fact, I am such a fan of the clean scent that I, as a novice seamstress, created a fabric sachet and filled it with the Purex Crystals for Baby and placed it in the foyer in my home. Now, when I walk through the front door, I am immediately greeted by the fresh, comforting scent.

I received 3 coupons for full-size bottles of Purex Crystals for Baby to share with my blog readers. Just follow these easy steps to enter:
  1. Follow this blog, either by email or with Google Friend Connect (both options located in the sidebar to the right).
  2. Like Keeping up with the Kershes on Facebook.

Borax review and giveaway

The Purex Insider program recently gave me the opportunity to try 20 Mule Team Borax laundry booster. Three of my lucky readers will win a coupon for a free full size product as well. Also, the Borax - Fresh Year, Fresher Laundry Facebook Sweepstakes is now LIVE! You can enter to win the $1,500 Grand Prize, or one of 171 coupons for FREE BORAX! You may sign up once a day until February 22nd just by clicking HERE.

20 Mule Team Borax naturally softens hard water. It keeps stains and soil from being redistributed back onto clothing in the washer. You can add a 1/2 cup of Borax  to each load of laundry to boost the cleaning process. I used it in my laundry and it helped get a stain out of one of my sweatshirts that came from the gunk on the bottom of our big garage door. I was ecstatic to see that my hoodie had not been ruined when I pulled it out of the machine. I have been washing the entire household's clothing together lately, and have had no trouble with the transfer of soils from one garment to another (such as grime from hubby's work clothes getting on any of the other stuff). There is less of a job to do now when laundry time comes, since I don't have to worry as much about sorting so many separate loads.

You can also use Borax for a variety of things around the house, such as cleaning garbage disposals, drains, bathtubs, sinks, toilet bowls, carpets, kitchen counters, and appliances. Almost anything you can think of that could use a cleaner, Borax is there to help tackle the mess. Borax can also be used to deter certain pests.

There are other things you can use Borax for that you would never even think of! Along with a few other simple ingredients, you can make homemade Gak, Silly Putty, Flubber, and much more. Recipes can be found easily on the internet, and making the concoctions is not only fun, it can also be educational!

I received 3 manufacturer coupons to give out to my blog readers that are good for a FREE box of 20 Mule Team Borax. Just follow these easy steps to enter:

  1. Follow this blog, either by email or with Google Friend Connect (both options located in the sidebar to the right).
  2. Leave a comment letting me know that you are entering the contest. Please provide your email address in your comment so I will be able to notify you if you are a winner.
I will conduct the random drawing on January 21st and will contact winners as soon after that as possible.

Purex baby detergent review, giveaway, and sweepstakes

I received a bottle of Purex Baby detergent from the Purex Insiders program to test out. Although my baby is almost 5 years old (!), I was still excited to try the product. First of all, the scent of Purex Baby really brought back some memories of when my son was a tiny little newborn and the fresh "new baby" smell that surrounded him and all of his stuff. It left that wonderfully light fragrance on the loads of laundry that I used it for...gentle traces of clean scent that is not at all overpowering, and the clothing came out as clean as can be.

Purex Baby's dermatologist-tested formula is hypoallergenic, yet it is guaranteed to remove stubborn stains without hurting delicate clothing. As are all Purex detergents, Purex Baby is specifically designed for use in all types of washing machines. The price is much more friendly than competitors' brands as well.

I received 3 manufacturer coupons to give out to my blog readers that are good for a FREE bottle of Purex Baby.
I will conduct the random drawing on January 11th and will contact winners as soon after that as possible.
There is also a sweepstakes being held on the Purex Promotions page in which 3 winners will receive a $500 grand prize and an additional 250 winners will receive free Purex Baby detergent. To enter, please click here and follow the instructions on the page.
